The Jewel of Istanbul, Blue Mosque one of the most beautiful mosques in Istanbul

The glorious blue mosque is a popular attraction in Istanbul. It has served as the administrative quarter of the Ottoman rulers.it is also known as sultan Ahmet mosque. Construction of the mosque started in August 1609 when the sultan himself came to break the first sod. It was his intention that this would become the first mosque of his empire. He did appoint his royal architect Sedefhar Mehmet Aga, a student and senior assistant of the famous architect Mimar Sinan to be in charge of the Mosque construction. The organization of the work was described in meticulous detail in eight volumes, now found in the library of the Topkapı Palace. The opening ceremonies were held in 1617 . The building was not yet finished in the last year of his reign, as the last accounts were signed by his successor Mustafa I. The vast complex of blue mosque features opulent courtyards which are lined with hand-painted tiles work and splendidly decorated rooms.

Most popular highlight of the blue mosque is the Harem. Sultan’s concubines used to spend their time in Harem. Blue mosque also has an Imperial Council Chamber and Sacred Safekeeping Rooms.
